The Essential Abiquiu Experience

The Essential Abiquiu Experience

The ultimate tour of sacred New Mexico Landscapes made famous by Georgia O’Keeffe.

This experience takes you into the landscapes and homes of Georgia O’Keeffe and onto Plaza Blanca, a majestic landscape made up of beautiful white sandstone cliffs, depicted in O’Keeffe’s series of paintings called The White Palace. This experience includes a Foodie Gourmet champagne lunch at Café Abiquiu & LaTerraza, and some fun off the beaten path shopping.

*A private tour of the home of Georgia O’Keeffe, built into one of the oldest Northern New Mexico haciendas, can be arranged at an additional cost (based on availability). This peak experience is available to an extremely small number of visitors each year.

Plaza Blanca + Abiquiu

The departure from The Inn of The Five Graces offers a scenic drive through Northern New Mexico by Luxury SUV. As we approach Abiquiu, you’ll recognize vistas that have inspired artists like Georgia O’Keeffe and recognized familiar places from movies like Oppenheimer, City Slickers, and more. Red-rusted earth covered in the pygmy woodland forest of piñon and juniper and the craggy outcroppings of multi-layered ancient sandstone will blaze past your window.

Our first stop is Plaza Blanca, a majestic landscape made up of beautiful white sandstone cliffs with breathtaking views of the Chama River valley. It gained fame through Georgia O’Keeffe’s series of paintings called ‘The White Palace,’ which will inspire the inner artist in you.

Following our hike, we’ll head to Bosshard Gallery in the village of Abiquiu. This gallery was once the home of the original Bode’s Mercantile. Today, the gallery offers a fine representation of Northern New Mexican history with an extensive collection of Indigenous textiles, jewelry, and ceramics.

Next, we stop for a delicious champagne lunch on the patio at the historic Abiquiú Inn at Café Abiquiú & The Terrace in Abiquiú. The menu is comprised of fresh local ingredients featuring New Mexican specialties.

From here, we head to Ghost Ranch, a 21,000-acre retreat situated on the Colorado Plateau, to take in the afternoon light as it paints the colorful ribbons of Entrada sandstone and the timeless Morrison, Chinle, and Todilto formations.

Finally, with lots of fresh air and artistic memories, we’ll journey back to Santa Fe with a stop at Romero’s Roadside stand. You’ll get a taste of traditional New Mexican cuisine at this quintessential Northern New Mexico stand, selling the best of New Mexican chiles.
